Understanding Literacy and Encouraging a Love of Reading
Welcome, Parents and Carers
At the Children’s Literacy Charity, we believe that every child deserves the chance to become a confident reader and communicator. Whether your child is taking part in our Story Lab, Literacy Lab, or Reading Lab programme – or you’re simply looking for ways to support their literacy skills at home – you’ve come to the right place.
Parents and carers play a vital role in children’s learning, and we see our work as a partnership with you. When families are involved in their child’s literacy journey, the results are powerful. In fact, research shows that children who are supported at home with reading are more likely to do well at school, have stronger language skills, and develop a lifelong love of books.
Our programmes are designed to build children’s confidence and close literacy gaps through fun, focused support. But the impact is even greater when we work together. Supporting your child’s literacy at home can make a big difference to their confidence and learning. That’s why we’re here to share practical tips, helpful resources, and advice so you can continue supporting your child at home – whether it’s sharing a bedtime story, practising their spelling and phonics, or simply celebrating their progress.
Whether you have five minutes or a little longer, there’s always something small you can do to help your child grow as a reader and communicator. We’re here to support you every step of the way.
Thank you for being part of your child’s literacy journey. Together, we can help them build the literacy skills they need for a bright future.
