When developing language, most children go through the same stages, although some will be quicker and others a little slower. All children develop skills at their own pace, and no two are exactly the same. It’s normal if your child has reached some of these milestones but not all of them.

If you are the parent of a child under the age of 5 and you are worried about your child’s communication and language, then you can:
- Talk to your child’s key worker, nursery staff, or health visitor
- Ask your GP for advice
- Contact local NHS Speech and Language Therapy services directly
If your child is over the age of 5, then you can:
- Speak to their class teacher or the school SENCo (Special Educational Needs Coordinator)
- Ask the GP for guidance
