The Literacy Lab programme is designed to help your child improve all aspects of their literacy including speaking, listening, reading and writing. We design our programmes based on the needs of your child, giving them the best opportunities to catch up with their learning.

Your child will work with an expert tutor from the Children’s Literacy Charity in school, twice a week for approximately 45 minutes.

Reading

Enjoyment of reading is at the heart of what we do. Your child will practice their reading during every session. We will help your child to read fluently and confidently.  We will also let your child choose a story that we can read aloud and enjoy together.

We will be teaching your child phonics and making sure that they can use their phonics knowledge in their reading and writing. We use lots of different resources to make learning phonics fun.

Speaking and Listening

There will be many opportunities for your child to improve their vocabulary and to develop their spoken language skills. We will be playing games, discussing books and thinking about different questions. Your child will learn how to predict, to explain and to use their own opinion.

Writing

The children in Literacy Lab will be learning to apply their phonic knowledge to their writing by sounding out the words. They will also be writing about stories, characters and different settings that they see in the books that we read.
