The Great Explorer by Chris Judge
THE GREAT EXPLORER | Chris Judge | Read aloud #storyoftheweek
Day 1: Read or watch the book The Great Explorer. Afterwards, sit with an adult and tell them the story in your own words. Can you remember all the events? Use the pages of the book to help you.
Day 2: Make a list of everything that Tom takes on his adventure. Can you add your own ideas? What else might he need to survive?
Day 3: Take a walk in the Arctic (the North Pole). Write a list of words to describe it, for example: freezing, icy, endless. Choose your favourite three words and write a sentence using each one.

Day 4: Draw a map showing each thing that Tom sees: the iceberg, the river, the cave, the tent. Can you add labels to your map?
Day 5: Look at the page where Tom finds his dad. Draw two speech bubbles. What are they saying to each other?
Day 6: Find out about a real Arctic explorer! Write down or tell an adult the answers to these questions:
- How old was she when she went to the North Pole?
- How did she get there?
- Where did she sleep?
- How many days did the Arctic trek take?
What was her favourite moment of the trip?
